A few thoughts about the 23 season

First off, how much fun was that? Like @Chase Parham has said so many times, the build is the most fun part. I think we are in the heart of “the build” right now. In my opinion, we’ll look back at this year as the turning point in our climb up the ladder.
This isn’t a super talented team. It’s a group of role players who won on leadership, culture, attitude, willingness to be coached, and effort. The offense is basically an over achieving OL, a bunch of G5 WRs, a star RB, and a gutty leader of a Qb whose teammates and coaches deeply respect him. The defense is a mish-mash of kids thrown together at the last possible minute who know their roles and do their jobs. It’s remarkable.
In my view, this has been one of the best coaching jobs in the country, and one of the best I’ve ever seen at Ole Miss. Lane, Pete and Charlie absolutely hit it out of the park this season. It gives me so much confidence in what’s going to come under Lane. I think Pete was absolutely the missing piece to the puzzle and if and when the day comes that Lane moves on, you don’t look any further than down the hall and hand the keys over. There’s something real to continuity and culture and Pete’s addition, for whatever reason, helped put it all together here. He’s an elite communicator, teacher and a relentless recruiter. He and Lane together is a real problem for the rest of this league.
The recruiting is about to start really showing and we’re setup to make a real run at the post season in 24. This is the fun part, folks. Enjoy it.

This group is special. It was my first year around a Lane team and they’re different. I have no idea if it was a lightning in a bottle/culture thing, but I’d bet not. I’d bet this is something that will only grow.
I hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving and is looking forward to an awesome bowl season.

Supremely grateful,

Kentucky

This might be a problem for Lebby

I’m pretty sure they already know about this so it’s probably not a big deal

Delores Lozano recently winning her case against Baylor was a game changer in this matter. Jeff Lebby was the position coach of the Baylor running back, Devin Chafin, that repeatedly assaulted and abused Ms. Lozano. She contacted Lebby on more than one occasion about Chafin’s assaults and abuse and Lebby did nothing about it. Chafin continued to play for Baylor until his drug use got completely out of hand.Again, here is the text of Lozano’s suit against Baylor for their neglect in addressing the abuse and assaults against her. You do not have to read far to see Lebby’s name and his involvement in this.https://casetext.com/case/lozano-v-baylor-univ-1 (https://casetext.com/case/lozano-v-baylor-univ-1)Here are some other articles illustrating her allegations.https://www.chron.com/sports/college/article/Alleged-Baylor-victim-said-art-briles-coach-knew-7968608.php (https://www.chron.com/sports/colleg...er-what-coaches-knew-about-assaults-drug-use/ (https://www.courthousenews.com/baylor-alum-spar-over-what-coaches-knew-about-assaults-drug-use/)
When Ole Miss hired Jeff Lebby, these were all rumors and allegations. Now, a federal jury in late October has found Ms. Lozano completely credible and she won her suit against Baylor.

Feldman reporting that Day is a target at A&M

Not sure if I’ve mentioned this here but…

Would I be surprised if he went to A&M? Sure. Shocked? No way.

He loses today and things are going to be very uncomfortable here for him. (Hard to say about a guy who is like 51-6 or whatever.). Couple that with the fact he’s going to be getting a new athletic director in 6-7 months or so. 🤷‍♂️…

Agent play? Probably. (I think he’s repped by Trace Armstrong)

(And honestly there are 20’other guys who could do what Day has done at OSU…everyone wins there. Last 5 coaches are or will be in the HOF.

Fickell’s timing couldn’t be worse. Passes on ND bc he’s coaching in a playoff he has zero chance of winning. Then takes Wisconsin bc he knows he’s about to get steamrolled in B12 at Cincy and his absolute lifetime dream job could open the following year.
