QUICK SPRING NOTES
Q. Mireles played slot on Wednesday and looked good doing it. Korvic Neat has a toe injury that will take a little time, so it was somewhat necessary, but Mireles looks good there.
There's a lot of promise with the newcomers. Team drills aren't the best spot to see that because their heads are spinning and it's too assignment oriented, but one-on-ones have been pleasant sights for the new players. Christian Morgan really flashed nice hands and physicality yesterday in pass drills. He doesn't look out of place.
Mark Dodson has had some nice runs. Obviously the pass protection and other parts aren't there, but when you give him the ball he can do things with it.
Freeze had a lot of praise for Woodrow Hamilton yesterday as one of the more improved players. That's big as the defensive line needs all the depth possible. It could be a big-time improvement year for Hamilton. Freeze also singled out Carlos Thompson and said the redshirt year was a great thing for him.
I saw the talk on the board about Austin Douglas. He's a great guy to have as a walk-on, and he's probably pushing Ben Still for the back-up center job. I think Evan is safely out front, but quality depth can't be disregarded. Stuff happens.
Freeze still wasn't thrilled with the quarterbacks on Wednesday but gave the defense credit for some of the situation. It's way too early to make it a big deal, especially with the starter not even taking reps.
