Anyone know how many team National Championships Ole Miss has across all sports since 1962 when we claimed a share of the National Championship in football? We have (2), one from the baseball team in 2022 under Bianco and the other from women’s tennis in 2021. That’s it, just 2 National Championships in 60+ years over all team sports. I find it comical that this fan base continues to blast a man that brought a National Championship to Ole Miss just a few years ago and one of only two in the last 60+ years. To put that in perspective…how many times has Ole Miss football been in the SEC Championship game or how many times has the men’s basketball team been to the Sweet 16? The answer is (0) and (2). Those aren’t even close to National Championships by the way. Instead of bashing him, we should be thanking him every day! I arrived on campus in 1989 as a freshman and until Bianco won it, I really started to doubt that I’d see an Ole Miss Men’s National Championship in any team sport in my lifetime. That Ole Miss curse felt all too real. Anyone remember where they were when the baseball team won the whole thing? How many of you were able to make it out there and remember the absolute joy it brought you as an Ole Miss fan? We were waiting 60+ years for that moment, and some were lucky enough to celebrate in Omaha with generations of family members. That is priceless!
I’ll admit that I’m not a baseball guy. I don’t care if he pulls a guy early or leaves a guy out there too long. I don’t care about any coaching decisions he makes. I don’t care if Ole Miss ends up in last place. All I care about is the fact that he is the only men’s coach that has won a team National Championship for Ole Miss in my lifetime. For that, I believe he deserves much better from our fanbase.
