We'll update this throughout the day as necessary. Neal broke protocol yesterday and created his own thread for the coaching search.
I made a post last night regarding Mizzou offering Ole Miss OL commit Jake Meador. Today, powermizzou.com released what I'm guessing is its version of a War Room, and they began with information on Meador and fellow Ole Miss commit Ike Spearman.
Here's what the guys with that site had to say.
"four-star Whiteland (IN offensive tackle Jake Meador told me that he was offered by Missouri on Wednesday night and scheduled a visit to Columbia for the Texas Tech game on Nov. 19.
I talked to Meador on Thursday evening, and I'll start by giving you all a rudimentary timeline.
Meador said he sent tape to the Missouri coaching staff last spring, but didn't hear anything back. He then commited to Ole Miss in late June, over offers from Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, among others.
Flash forward four months. Ole Miss fired Houston Nutt, and Meador decided to start looking around. He didn't officially de-commit from the Rebels, because he wants to see who becomes the permanent coach and the staff said coach brings in. But, he realizes that he doesn't want to be left in the cold should a coach not be finalized until January. For that reason, he starts to explore his options.
Immediately, Meador focuses in on Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and Vanderbilt -- four schools that have already offered. On Saturday, however, he received a phone call from Missouri co-offensive line coach Josh Henson, expressing interest on behalf of the Missouri coaching staff. Henson said Missouri has needed another offensive tackle, and that need was heightened because of recent decommitments (of Germain Ifedi and the impending de-committment of Simon Goines).
Soon thereafter, Meador said he scheduled an UNOFFICIAL visit for the Texas Tech game.
On Wednesday night, he received an offer from Missouri.
Meador admitted to me that Missouri's interest all surfaced quickly, and he doesn't know much about the program.
"I know it's a good program," Meador said. "But I don't know a whole lot. I'll find out more on the visit."
At this point, Missouri seems more like the wild card of the group. As stated, the other schools have recruited Meador for a while. He's scheduled a visit to Indiana the weekend after Missouri's game against Texas Tech.
For now, Missouri is in good position to impress Meador on his visit. He truly is a blank slate for recruiting, and for that reason, he said he isn't in any rush to make a decision.
"I'm going to take more visits and then hopefully make a decision in January or early February," Meador said.
He also wanted to stress that he hasn't de-committed from Ole Miss, referring to himself as a soft-verbal instead. In this case, that's an accurate definition of the word. He has to wait and see which direction the Rebels go. At the same time, he has to make sure he isn't left with no offers, in case things change.
"My parents told me I committed to a school, not a coach," Meador said. "But I just have to explore my options."
I'll talk with Meador after his visit, and hopefully more clarity will appear then.
-- Missouri also appears to be after another Ole Miss recruit, St. John (IN) linebacker Ike Spearman. Spearman is currently unranked by Rivals.com, but recently committed to Ole Miss over offers from Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Louisville and Minnesota, among others. I texted with Spearman on Thursday, and although he said Missouri hasn't offered, Cornell Ford has begun reaching out to him. At this point, he said he hasn't scheduled any other visits, and is in a wait-and-see mode.".
Again, like I've said everyday, almost any coach is able to rally the troops once he's hired, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on as we move forward and as the search drags on (if it does, I should say). Meador hasn't traveled much, so that could also play a role in his recruitment.
Continuing with the Mizzou flavor, Ole Miss was kicking the tires a bit of Tigers basketball commit Aaron Scales. Best I can tell, Scales hasn't signed a letter-of-intent with Mizzou and wasn't a part of its signing class. Something could still happen between Ole Miss and Scales, but I wouldn't call it likely.
In the search for a new athletics director, Texas Rangers chief operating officer Rick George's name has come up several times. His bio includes heading up the Champions Tour and other PGA Tour endeavors. He was also the associate athletics director at Vanderbilt once upon a time. I'm adding him to the hot board today.
