The weekend was a good one, as it brought a commitment from Dallas Skyline linebacker Victor Evans, as the athletic playmaker chose the Rebels over Texas and others. Ole Miss is recruiting Evans as a defensive end, so it's a nice get for that position.
Ole Miss is also presumably in the lead for Skyline offensive lineman Ty Barrett. That visit went great, and the Rebels are in the driver's seat there.
By all accounts Florida State's lead for Kendarius Webster lasted one day. The cornerback named FSU the leader after visiting Tallahassee, but the Rebels had a great visit with him and have the momentum again. I'll contact him today since he's gotten home and had a chance to dissect things with his family.
The Rebels seem to have big time jumped in the game for safety Jamal Adams, the nation's No. 39 prospect. We're working to reach Adams, but scuttlebutt is that Ole Miss is now in the lead group with Texas and Florida. Adams was potentially hoping to announce in August, though it could be after official visits. This was before the Ole Miss visit, but it's a good update with Adams to understand his thought process and what's going on.
Speaking of Adams, this is from the Texas site yesterday. The Longhorns have him as the most important recruit they are going after:
"2) On the radio Friday afternoon, I was asked which recruit in 2014 can Texas not afford to lose and the guy that helps this class get over the hump for a potential strong finish. Without hesitation, I said Lewisville Hebron's Jamal Adams .
Texas has spent a lot of time and has put a lot of effort into the defensive back's recruitment, and surprisingly at this time, the position is actually a big need in this class. Texas got him on campus early in his recruitment. Texas led at one point in the recruitment. And Texas can offer a better pitch to a DB that values NFL history at the position than anyone.
If the Longhorns lose out on the No. 39 prospect in the 2014 Rivals100, it's obviously going to be a huge blow. He's the guy Texas needs to get to finish strong down the stretch."
If you missed it, here's Neal's visit recap with Gerald Willis III, a top 50 prospect. Ole Miss is now in his top four with LSU, Florida and Texas A&M.
There's optimism out of Ole Miss about its chances to flip Deondre Clark. He told Jason Howell on Saturday he's still a 90 with LSU.
Here's a Breeland Speaks video from State's camp Friday. I'll talk to him Wednesday at the Dandy Dozen photoshoot.
Here's a Javon Patterson video interview from MSU.
Clifton Garrett has set up three official visits - "Actually, I have three set up," Garrett reported. "I have the Tennessee official set up for the Georgia game (Oct. 5). I will be going down to Florida for that Tennessee game (Sept. 21), and I'll be going to Ole Miss for the LSU game (Oct. 19)."
