Rivals250 linebacker Darren Kirkland Jr. is a soft verbal to Michigan, but that appears to be in technical status only. The Indianapolis, Ind., native is number one in the state and the No. 7 linebacker nationally.
We're hearing the official visit went very well over the weekend, and the Rebels have strengthened their case considerably. He's been unofficially to Notre Dame and is considering officials to Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon and USC. However, Ole Miss is right there and could be the biggest challenger to Michigan at this point.
Shea Patterson, the No. 1 dual-threat QB in the 2016 class, was in town over the weekend. Being from Shreveport and having the ties he does to LSU makes this an uphill battle for anyone not located in Baton Rouge, but the Rebels did all they could, and we hear it did make an impression - a big one, actually. So long time until NSD, and LSU will always be there, barring a coaching change, I guess, but Ole Miss has earned a place at the table, even if it's not at the head of it.
There didn't seem to be any red flags with Javon Patterson during his visit Saturday. Ole Miss continues to like its position.
Ole Miss is making a bit of a run at Florida State JUCO defensive tackle DJ Jones. Just something to pay attention to as the early signing period closes in. He took an official visit to Auburn a couple weeks ago and is also considering South Carolina.
CeCe Jefferson just committed to Florida State. Didn't expect that. He had checked in with Ole Miss as recently as after the game Saturday.
UPDATE: CeCe says on Twitter his teammates were playing with him and he's committing on National Signing Day. That makes more sense. He was very warm with the Rebels on Saturday night.
Leo Lewis was here and fine. He's committed, obviously. He and Drew Richmond are recruiting for Ole Miss.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ole Miss signs as many as 23 in this cycle.
The buzz continues to grow for QB commit Jason Pellerin. I've heard several Dak Prescott comparisons, except Pellerin may be more along with his passing game. Also, on the QB spot, I haven't heard much about Chad Kelly in several weeks.
