BOX SCORE
The admin is acting weird, so I'm posting some analysis here.
The Rebels got a win, their 20th in non-SEC play which is a targeted number each season. Still have Three out-of-conference games to go. Murray State's RPI (290) is awful, so you just win this one, hope it doesn't hurt in computers and move on.
The Murray State starter had a fastball that topped at 78 MPH and an offspeed pitch that routinely sat in the mid 60s. Ole Miss struggled with it the first time through as expected but exploded for a six-run fourth inning. I guess maybe it's a tuneup for Ross Mitchell this weekend, as the State ace spots everything but doesn't throw hard at all. However I'm going to say it was worthless.
Cliff Godwin had a really nice game coaching third. Very aggressive, made Murray pay for the lack of outfielder arms, including scoring Auston Bousfield from first on a single to center. I sat in the stands for a couple innings, and he really hit every note correctly with moving runners.
Murray only had one hit through six innings, but none of the pitchers had a standout outing. Evan Anderson walked four in three-plus innings. Matt Denny struggled at first but settled enough to allow just one run in two innings. Preston Tarkington had two strikeouts but walked a guy in an inning.
Braxton Lee had four hits and Austin Knight had three hits. Bousfield, JB Woodman and Will Allen two each. Allen, Sikes Orvis and Woodman all doubled. Lee had three stolen bases and now has 17 for the season.
Dalton Dulin had a pinch hit at-bat and played in the field. Must be better after the sprained ankle last week.
I'm copying this from my other post: I talked to Mike after the game last night, and he said Aaron is "day-to-day" with a cartilage (some confusion about exact diagnosis, but working with cartilage for now) issue in his torso. It's not an oblique because it seems to be improving more rapidly than it would in that case. So, there's some good news. He is questionable, per Bianco, to be on the travel roster this weekend. I'll follow up tomorrow.
Greenwood has been excellent since a little bit of a slow start, currently holding a 19-inning streak without an earned run.
