After the light visit weekend with only Cordarrelle Patterson in town officially, the busy week is here, as Ole Miss is expecting 18 official visitors on Friday. We'll clarify that list as the week moves on. As always, some show that weren't expecting to and some supposed to show never make it. That's nothing new.
Mississippi State had several Ole Miss targets in town over the weekend. Network policy is to give the MSU Rivals site first chance to contact them, so we'll wait until the end of the day before contacting those recruits.
Jeremy Liggins was in Starkville with his grandmother, brother and sister. Jeremy is still set to announce on Jan. 30 on the Square. Everything points to Ole Miss or MSU. He had a good visit to Starkville, but as we always say, good visits aren't news. That's normal. MSU freshman quarterback Dak Prescott was his host, and of course MSU is selling him on running a similar offense as Lafayette does. Bo Wallace's name was mentioned a few times, as well. Concerning the Oxford square announcement: Common sense says that's good for Ole Miss just because of the awkwardness of committing to State in that environment. However, Liggins continues to say it's simply because he's from Oxford and wants to do it like that. I'm sure State would love him putting on a maroon hat in the heart of Oxford. We'll see. I don't think it's done either way. It just feels like Ole Miss right now though.
Two Ole Miss targets from Florence, Ala., -- Kivon Coman and Beniquez Brown -- were also in Starkville. This is simply a wait-and-see situation. I heard yesterday that Ole Miss still expects both to visit Oxford. However, Coman strongly refuted that in post-visit media reports, and Brown isn't saying much of anything publicly. He's at the top of our list to contact this week. Probably impossible to know exactly until they pull up or don't pull up in front of the IPF.
Ruston, La., defensive back Kentrell Brice and teammate Cyril Noland officially visited Oregon State this past weekend. As Neal reported a few weeks ago, Brice is as committed to OSU as I am. Noland is pretty firm to the Beavers and doesn't have Brice's options, but Kentrell will visit Ole Miss and I'd consider the Rebels the heavy, heavy favorite.
Mike Hilton visited North Carolina this past weekend, but the Tar Heels haven't offered yet, and Hilton will visit Ole Miss this weekend. Things appear fine for the Tyrone, Ga., defensive back. UNC is recruiting him for offense, just FYI.
Former Ole Miss commit Jordan Batiste has committed to Tulane. Good for him. Nice kid.
Maurice Bennett didn't meet again with Freeze yesterday. They're supposed to meet at the IPF sometime today. As I said yesterday, Bennett hasn't heard from Washington State since before Christmas and hasn't been able to get Mike Leach on the phone. He's hoping for an opportunity to join the Rebels program and play with his brother, Bryon Bennett.
Collierville, Tenn., offensive lineman and Alabama commit Brandon Hill visited the Tide and has called off his remaining visits to Ole Miss and MSU. As we said late last week, Alabama wants to hold on to him and obviously did a nice job of it over the weekend.
We're going to move away from talking about Will Redmond (lack of interest) and Keithon Redding (grades). If something changes, we'll pick it back up.
