We've had a lot of people asking about the schedule for the fall, and I think we've finally gotten our collective heads around it.
When the pandemic hit, we had no choice but to move to afternoons. All three of my kids needed the WiFi in the mornings for school and so we moved to the afternoon. As that summer wore on, we taped when we could. It was difficult to stay on schedule, not knowing what the future held.
When we found out we would indeed have a football season, we rejoiced, but we didn't know what early practices entailed. Did that mean 9 a.m. media opportunities? 11 a.m.? We didn't know, so we settled into a 1 p.m. taping slot.
Now, dare I say, the pandemic is "over," and we know what morning practices mean from a media standpoint. While it might mean we miss some viewing opportunities (as of now, we have no idea what access will or won't look like from a practice standpoint), we have decided to go back to a morning taping.
So, starting fairly soon (Chase is out of town this week and we both have some more summer outings on our dockets), we're going to go back to taping Monday through Thursday mornings at 8 CT. At some point, likely in August, I'd guess, we're going to resume the Thursday night Hand Raise Guys show and make it available on Friday as the Friday OEP.
During football season, we're going to put together a pregame show, but it will be taped. We'll make it available at least 24 hours before kickoff, and it's likely going to be available on our YouTube channel and not in podcast form. After games, Chase is going to host a live postgame show. Jeffrey Wright, Brian Rippee and hopefully Pete DeWeese (Pete, if you're reading this, I'll be reaching out) will be regular post-game guests and I'll call in from the stadium and visit with Chase for a while, as I'll be covering the games for RG/Rivals, but I really won't be a big part of the show. Chase will also take calls from viewers/listeners. He'll record that show and put it up in podcast form so those wanting to listen to it the day after can.
There won't be a live pregame show or a live watch party this year, as stadiums will be at full capacity and we just don't think there would be an audience to justify that.
We're working on a couple of other things as well, but we haven't gotten those beyond the planning phase at this point.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what we're shooting for, as we've both been asked a lot. My guess is we'll get fully into this schedule by early August, once SEC Media Days is over and our schedules have settled. I've got a few days in early August when we're moving Caroline into her dorm, but after that, we'll be full-go.
