Don't post in this thread, blah blah blah
Sorry for the silence on my end the last couple days. Had to help get one of my best friends -- Patrick Ochs -- hitched in Biloxi yesterday. Mission accomplished, all went well. Patrick writes for the Eagle, and I messed with him all year that Ole Miss was going to go to the Compass Bowl and mess up his wedding. At the time I thought the Liberty had first pick, and I was being funny, but obviously we learned late in the year Birmingham had first dibs, and it did create the conflict. So, anyway, I'm back in Oxford and ready for these final few weeks until National Signing Day.
The all-star events couldn't have gone better for Ole Miss. The Rebels were the hot name being talked about, and it just helped increase the momentum that was already being built. As I posted in a thread earlier today, I was told this morning that the response Ole Miss coaches got in Orlando was a "grand slam."
Here are the coaches, I assume, that headed to Orlando on Friday to talk to prospects after the Under Armour game:
The picture was posted on the Twitter accounts of several coaches.
As you know, Nkemdiche and Treadwell were both recruiting other players to Ole Miss during the week. It appears the leads for both are substantial. Nkemdiche is publicly calling the Rebels the leader and seemed to hit it off with Lawson during the week. Treadwell is heading to OK State on Jan. 11. We'll see if mom tags along, but as of now, the Rebels' advantage is pretty lengthy. Ole Miss feels it has made up ground on Carl Lawson and even Laremy Tunsil.
I think it'll be interesting to see if Ole Miss' name stays hot in this period between the all-star games and official visits. It's when prospects get back in the daily routine, and the bump, kind of like official visits, wears off from the games. No matter what, Ole Miss is in better shape now than it was in a week ago. If National Signing Day were today, it'd be an impressive haul and the national recruiting story of the year, so the next few weeks will be quite interesting.
I haven't picked up on much concern with Peyton Barber and his visit to Auburn.
Antonio Conner told the Clarion-Ledger he's visiting Auburn and Alabama the next couple weeks, and of course he'll be in Oxford on January 25 with that ridiculous list of prospects. I've started updating the visit lists for both weekends to make sure they are accurate. I'm pretty close on the 25th. We'll see if all stick there, or if some move to the week before. Classes start back between those two visit dates I believe which means a good many students will be back in town before it really picks up.
Texas is trying to get in the game with Tunsil. UT OL commit Jake Raulerson put Tunsil in touch with UT assistant Stacy Searels. I doubt the Longhorns truly get in there. There's not a weekend open for a visit. It's just UT thinking it can jump in with anyone at any point. So, that's that, I guess it's something to watch.
As of late last night, Dodson hadn't talked to Texas to set up a midweek visit to Texas. Texas had asked him to call Larry Porter to work toward setting it up. I'll be stunned if anything significant materializes, but we'll stay on top of it just in case.
