It was truly a great day at the Ole Miss golf course, as we had the Park Stevens Memorial Scholarship golf tournament today. It was great to see and fellowship with those of you who were out there, and I appreciate everybody for playing, donating, lending encouragement or praying that all went well. I couldn't have done it without help, and while there were a few minor kinks with my first time doing one of these, I think it went remarkably well.
A few people I want to single out:
Kyle Thornton with Seven South Tailgating was a lifesaver, as he donated a 32 inch TV for the closest to the pin contest and also donated the coolers and ice for the tournament. He's not a bad golfer either, as his team -- along with Lawrebel and IndependenceBowlMainstay -- finished second in the championship flight with a 57. If you're needing anything with tailgating, give Kyle your business.
Hugh Freeze came out and spoke before the event, and appreciate that a ton. It was a hit with the golfers, and several got pictures with the head coach.
High Point Coffee donated the coffee and went above and beyond to make sure it was set up and ready for this morning. Thanks to owner Julie Mims for that assistance.
All the businesses that sponsored holes and a few individuals as in RebelQB and 4thqtrReb who did the same.
Coca-Cola for donating a ton of bottled water for the event.
Oxford T-shirt company for working with me to get the shirts correct and on schedule. The price was pretty good also.
Ben Craddock and Oxford Exxon who helped me make sure overhead didn't hurt the money raised for the scholarship fund.
All those who played and helped make sure the event filled up. A lot of good golf played today and a good turnout at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Dan Luke for being a sounding board in this process. I was an idiot when this started, and he patiently guided me through the process.
Brad Logan for assisting today. He was persuasive in selling mulligans and red tees. His presence was a huge help.
Gerald and Tate at the Ole Miss golf course. Their hospitality can't be overstated.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone so if you helped in any way I appreciate it so much. So glad Dean Stevens could be in town for it all. The cause was a great one, and we pulled it off. I don't have final money figures, but it was indeed a success.
Petre Thomas will post some pics later, but here is Freeze talking to the crowd and a picture of the shirt each player received.
