Dart started this back when he announced he was coming back with his video. There's always been some issues, but they're now coming into the light as frustration boils.
1. The Chicago Bulls "Last Dance" was after back-to-back titles. Obviously, the 2023 team shattered some ceilings with an 11-win season and a respectable top 10 finish, but it's not near where the Bulls were when they coined the phrase.
2. The Bulls coined that phrase not just because of MJ but because of Phil Jackson leaving after the next year too. You can't have that message when you're trying to recruit for future years and your coach is mentioned for nearly every single high profile opening by media.
3. The year after The Last Dance, the Bulls went 13-37. Again, what message are we sending?
In the end, Dart, probably immaturely and erroneously, misbranded the messaging for this team, and Kiffin went along with it. Add in all the transfer portal kids, and it's not a cohesive message unless you just go out and compete for a title.
Had they wanted that message, Kiffin should've not allowed that to be coined for the whole '24 team. Let it be for a select group of guys who are obviously leaving after this year. Dart, Tre, Preiskorn, Watkins, JJ, etc. To essentially be your team motto is going to welcome angst and frustration when you don't deliver.
