Ole Miss will sign as many as five junior college prospects on Wednesday before turning its complete attention to closing out the 2015 signing class in February.
Ole Miss is expected to sign quarterback Chad Kelly, cornerback Tony Bridges and linebacker Terry Caldwell _ all of whom have committed to the Rebels publicly _ on Wednesday. No one would be surprised if the Rebels flipped Florida State commitment/defensive lineman D.J. Jones and/or Arizona State commitment/linebacker Duvon Durant on Wednesday either.
That will leave 5-8 spots available to close out the 2015 class. The Rebels, per insiders, would like to close with several defensive linemen, another linebacker or two, a wide receiver (maybe two, if Ole Miss can flip Van Jefferson from his commitment to Georgia) and possibly another offensive linemen. The rest of the class appears set.
Some names to keep an eye on in the final weeks include Rivals100 wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge. The Texas product, according to multiple sources, is leaning towards Ole Miss, and it's been obvious for months now that he's the top wide receiver target on the Rebels' wish list. Jefferson, as of Tuesday afternoon, had not declared a decision. His high school coach told UGASports.com Jefferson would sign financial aid papers when he made that decision. Georgia is believed to lead Ole Miss for Jefferson.
Ole Miss would like to sign another offensive lineman. Martinas Rankin hasn't tipped his hand, though Ole Miss sources don't seem optimistic. Auburn and Mississippi State feel like favorites there. Matt Wommack committed to Alabama on Sunday, and despite protests to the contrary from others, that seems final.
The Rebels should have more luck on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage. Pawling, N.Y., standout defensive end Austrian Robinson (who could play offensive tackle at the college level) should visit next month. Maryland, Central Florida and Penn State are also in the mix. Ole Miss is making a push for Rivals250 defensive tackle Kendrick Norton from Jacksonville, Fla. Norton has a long list of offers. Miami is the only known favorite of Norton's; he's played recruiting close to the vest.
Ole Miss covets five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson and four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips. Alabama and Florida appear to lead for Jefferson, but he tweeted Sunday upon returning from Tuscaloosa that he wants to visit Oxford again after the dead period ends. Phillips has seemed to shift towards Tennessee some recently, but both Ole Miss and LSU are very much in the mix.
Yazoo City, Miss., defensive lineman Gabe Campbell recently visited Oklahoma, but sources close to the Sooners' program believe Campbell will sign in-state. Ole Miss still appears to be the favorite over Mississippi State inside the Magnolia State. He'll likely visit both schools in January.
Rivals100 linebacker Roquan Smith is still giving Ole Miss attention, though Georgia appears to be a heavy favorite for his signature. Vanderbilt commitment Josh Smith will visit Ole Miss in January, and while it's likely he'll stick with the Commodores, the Rebels are a factor there and a threat to flip him before National Signing Day. Cedar Hill, Texas, linebacker Richard Moore, Lodge's high school teammate, is expected to visit Ole Miss in January as well. Long considered a Texas A&M lead, Moore has indicated he plans to reopen his recruiting.
Ole Miss is tryng to get a visit from Houston, Texas, four-star cornerback Holton Hill. LSU and Florida State have already gotten official visits, and the Tigers are the likely leaders. Riverdale, La., four-star cornerback Donte Jackson is also an Ole Miss target that has gotten less attention than others. The Rivals250 standout is likely headed to LSU, per network sources, but Ole Miss, Georgia and Southern California are working to land visits. Both Hill and Jackson could be in Oxford on Jan. 23, per sources.
