NM: I've been asked a thousand questions in the last several days about the whereabouts of Brookhaven, Miss., four-star linebacker/Ole Miss commitment Leo Lewis. Here's what I know: Lewis attended Mississippi State's win over Texas A&M in Starkville early Saturday. According to sources, he then made the trip to Oxford at some point. There are different accounts regarding when he made it, but all agree he made it.
NM: I expect a back-and-forth like this between Mississippi State and Ole Miss all the way to the end, frankly. Lewis is a pleaser; he has a difficult time telling people know. My sources believe Lewis ends up signing with Ole Miss. I can't get a response from him and haven't talked to him personally in quite some time, so I'll be honest here and tell you I have no idea what he ultimately does.
NM: CeCe Jefferson isn't granting many interviews these days. I talked to his father briefly as the pair made their way home to Florida Sunday, but all indications are the five-star defensive end loved his time in Oxford. Jefferson tweeted on Monday that "Oxford was so fun I about committed!" Obviously, Jeferson was caught up in the moment a bit, but Ole Miss has positioned itself to potentially land his services. Jefferson's decision, in all likelihood, will come down to what happens at Florida. Given the chaotic nature of the Florida program right now, Ole Miss has to like its chances.
CP: It's a mixed bag with Jefferson. He's injured, so it's all recruiting right now, and he had a heckuva time, obviously, in Oxford this past weekend. There's been a huge bump from the visit, and that's a good thing for Ole Miss, but remember those dim as the days move on. However, the Rebels have fully established themselves as a leader, and if NSD was today, he'd be a Rebel. It's nothing but positives. Now it's other schools that will take their turns at Jefferson. He's headed to Alabama on Oct. 18
NM: We put AuburnSports.com's Jeffrey Lee's story on Javon Patterson on the message board Monday, so you can read it for yourself. However, I continue to hear Ole Miss leads and that Auburn isn't pushing nearly as hard as it was in the summer.
CP: It appears to be a matter of when, not if, for Patterson and Ole Miss.
NM: In addition to Jefferson, Ole Miss entertained two wide receivers _ Ryan Newsome and Alex Ofodile _ on official visits last weekend. Jason Howell's story on Newsome is on the site. Ofodile hasn't commented yet, but sources indicated the visit went extremely well and his decision will likely come down to Oregon and Ole Miss. Ofodile's parents, per sources, favor Ole Miss.
NM: Ole Miss also hosted Shreveport, La., offensive tackle/Notre Dame commitment Jerry Tillery on an official visit over the weekend. Tillery hasn't commented yet (we're working on it), but we're told it went very well and Ole Miss is very much in the game.
CP: I'm being told Tillery is a December grad. He tells Notre Dame he's solid, and the Irish are most worried about LSU, but we'll see. It's definitely one to follow. He last visited ND for the Irish's game against Michigan.
NM: Ole Miss continues to look like the prohibitive favorite for Nashville, Tenn., defensive end Kyle Phillips, who was back in Oxford on Saturday. Another defensive lineman, Houston's Ross Donelly, was back in Oxford as well. Ole Miss and Stanford appear to be the leaders for his signature.
NM: A couple of junior college notes: Ole Miss continues to be a major threat to Auburn for Tigers commitment/Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College cornerback Tony Bridges. However, it doesn't appear Ole Miss wants to be a major player for East Mississippi Community College quarterback Chad Kelly.
NM: I won't spend a lot of time on 2016 prospects today, as I heard nothing much different Sunday and Monday from what we reported in our last war room. However, I heard late Monday Ole Miss is emerging as a major player for Macon, Miss., '16 defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons. He is a major want for Ole Miss, Mississippi State and dang near everyone else.
CP: Ole Miss picked up a baseball commit Sunday from Hinds Community College sophomore Austin Sanders. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound pitcher is originally from Madison Central. He's 91-93 and described to me this morning as highly competitive with a chip on his shoulder in a good way when he's on the mound.
CP: Here are some video highlights of 2016 commit Denzel Mitchell: CLICK HERE. I talked to his coach Sunday for the story, and I've heard nothing but good things about his work ethic and attitude. He's engaging when he was at camp at Oxford over the summer. He grew up in Alabama but has no allegiance to Alabama or Auburn, so it should be at least easier to keep him than it would be at some schools and with some predispositions.
