It sounded like Hartwell was the guy at Auburn that all the boosters were behind. The boosters all had become ok with Freeze and agreed to pull in the same direction with him as HC. Hartwell and Freeze were the next AD and HC until the Utah State scandal came out a couple of weeks ago.
Did this rule Hartwell out? So then Auburn has to go to option B for AD. Somehow they end up with Cohen. Cohen obviously doesn't want to hire Freeze (might have turned him into the NCAA? Not sure about the facts there). So they realize that Freeze is off the table. Freeze signs new contract to stay at Liberty. Cohen and Auburn realized that they need to get out front of this and have someone ready to go the Monday after the Iron Bowl, so they fire Harsin and start on the circuit to find a coach.
Would all this have been avoided if the Utah State stuff never comes to light?
