6. RB Zach Evans, TCU Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin adding Evans to his offense is bad news for everybody in the SEC. The former five-star recruit proved in 2021 that when healthy, he is a truly dynamic playmaker. Evans gained 778 total yards over six games as a sophomore at TCU, a hot start that included 10 plays of 20-plus yards and six touchdowns. A turf toe injury shut him down, and a coaching change in Fort Worth prompted him to explore a transfer.

Ole Miss’ staff couldn’t be more excited about what it has seen from him since he joined the Rebels. Evans, the No. 2 running back in Brugler’s preseason top 50, looks ready for a monster junior season. The Rebels won’t have to wear him out with too many carries, too, with three good backs (including one more on this list) who will complement his big-play ability.

19. WR Jaylon Robinson, UCF Ole Miss

“Flash” Robinson could be one of the more electric playmakers in the SEC this fall. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound speedster was a first-team All-AAC performer at UCF, putting up 1,329 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 17.5 yards per catch. A torn meniscus sidelined him for five games last season, and he missed time in fall camp due to an injury. But one Ole Miss coach said what they’ve seen from him so far has been “special.” Robinson offers a similar frame and skill set to Elijah Moore, who became an All-American in his lone season in this offense in 2020.

22. TE Michael Trigg, USC Ole Miss

Trigg is only a sophomore and has to keep learning and developing, but the Ole Miss coaching staff believes the tight end has the potential to be a difference-maker in their offense. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound pass catcher spent one season at USC, where he caught seven passees for 109 yards and a touchdown before a midseason knee injury ended his freshman campaign. He’s a freaky athlete with excellent body control, balance and catch radius who’s been really good so far and will create a lot of matchup problems.

27. QB Jaxson Dart, USC Ole Miss

Dart is one of the more challenging players to rank right now, because the upside of what he could achieve this fall is very exciting … if he’s the starter. Kiffin has yet to name a winner in the extremely competitive battle between Dart and Luke Altmyer.

The USC transfer came in with a ton of hype, and rightfully so. He was the Gatorade National Player of the Year after putting up monster numbers in his senior year of high school, and he had a few opportunities last fall to show off his potential. Dart threw for 1,353 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in six games, three of them starts, in his lone season with the Trojans.

If he proves he’s ready to lead Kiffin’s offense and takes care of the football, Dart could be in for a huge year with the help of all the talent the Rebels plucked out of the portal. The sophomore has time to keep developing, but no one will be shocked if he shines right away.

41. DL JJ Pegues, Auburn Ole Miss

The 6-foot-2, 315-pound junior came home to Oxford and is right where he needs to be at defensive tackle after beginning his career as a tight end at Auburn. He’s embracing that position and flashing big potential as an explosive athlete who’s quick off the ball. He’s going to make an immediate impact on the Rebels’ D-line.
