I know @Neal McCready has mentioned in past Sankey's desire to turn this into a more NFL looking model. Took a stab on how that would look with current rumors on schools going to certain conferences and how the NFL structures their season and playoff.
Big 10 adds Oregon, Washington, Stanford, and ND to get to 20 teams. SEC adds Clemson, FSU, UNC, and Virginia to get to 20 as well.
Both Big 10 and SEC breakaway from NCAA and start their own North (Big 10) and South (SEC) conferences. Each conference will break into four 5 team divisions. Trying to keep some level of competitive balance and geographic sense in creating these but here ya go:

You would have a 12 game schedule with 9 conference games with the 3 non-conference games being played against the opposing conference, i.e, no more sisters of the poor games on tv. You would play all 4 other teams in your division and play one other division in your conference per year and it would rotate every year. So, for example, Ole Miss would play Bama, Auburn, State, and LSU within their division, then lets say they are paired up with the NW division for first year, they would play all 5 of those teams, plus 3 teams in the big 10 (not sure how that would be divvied out but you could make sure everyone plays each other within a 6-7 year period).
Playoffs would take the 4 division winners in each conference plus 2 wild cards for a 12 team playoff. Champ game will feature the Big 10 winner vs SEC winner. You could completely copy NFL model and take 3 wildcards as well. I would only have neutral site games for semis and final.
