The counter to that, for me, is these Athletic Foundations. The only difference today between NIL and an Athletic Foundation donation is that the AF gives you some benefits and a tax break.
Once NIL moves in house, I think NIL and AF just becomes one and the same. Fans have always been funding the operation to try to win. I just think it’s a difference in allocation of the funds.
The only counter to that, for me, is that fans can more directly tie their donations to success or failure, which may not be as tasteful.
