I'm diving into the overall report much more with content tomorrow, but just as a primer, Ole Miss reported these financial numbers for the four main sports for the 2023 fiscal year:

Football

Revenue: 72,504,708
Expenses: 60,203,672
Net: 12,301,036

Men's Basketball

Revenue: 12,259,691
Expenses: 15,933,612
Net: -3,673,921

Women's Basketball

Revenue: 1,043,738
Expenses: 9,483,332
Net: -8,394,594

Baseball

Revenue: 10,192,493
Expenses: 10,026,367
Net: 166,126

The men's basketball number includes 1.6 million in severance to the previous staff, but it also includes 5 million plus of that revenue in media rights deals and 2.7 million in NCAA distributions (conference share of NCAA Tournament berths). Both those are guaranteed as long as the team exists. Beard has done a good job quickly so ticket revenues and donations will be up next year. The severance will also be lower.

There's more than $2 million in football severance, too.

Baseball breaking even and being a little in the black is impressive since there aren't media rights windfalls for the sport and that's without a postseason. It mainly means there was a crap ton of excitement and ticket sales going into the season.

Anyway, more tomorrow, but I always find the sport by sport stuff interesting.
