The 85 scholarship limit situation really intrigues me. Maybe i'm the only one, but here's the big picture as of right now.
First, there is moving pieces everywhere here. More players will certainly enter the portal after the bowl game (1-61). Some players MAY announce they're going pro in addition to Corral & Sam (62-68). Some players will exercise the covid year eligibility and be accepted back on sholarship (69-73). Our new signees tomorrow, who are currently committed (74-87). Our expected Dec/Feb signees that we lead for currently (88-91). Factor in we probably sign a few more HS guys in Dec/Feb beyond what I have listed. Maybe Mark Robinson gets 1 more year of eligibility through an appeal (i've seen that rumored as possible). We expect to bring in at least a handful of transfers.
Hypothetically, factoring in who goes pro and who doesnt come back for covid year on scholly, you probably clear up about 5 or so spots, which would bring the figure down to 86. The players who will enter the portal after the Sugar Bowl will help bring this figure down further, however, I have seen some people mention they expect us to bring in double digit transfers. Given these figures, it's nearly impossible for that to happen. A realistic figure for transfers to bring in is 5-7, but given that we're likely already over the 85 figure, for every additional HS signee or Transfer that you want to bring in, you need at least 1 more player to enter the portal from the current roster. Quite the juggling act here.
