I really like the format of having the byes only go to conference champions, but with the conference consolidation, 4 conference champion byes is too many.
Solution? I’m good with still having 4 or 5 auto-bids, but expand the field so that we only have 2 byes.
Couple bonuses with that, it makes going 13-0 more important, which keeps the value of the regular season. I also like that it would add an extra two first round campus games.
I don’t like 16, because I think the reward of the bye is needed to make sure there is motivation to try to get a conference championship and to stay undefeated. The last thing I want is an Auburn-Alabama game where one school is resting players.
