I've been reading the various posts about changing the state flag, doing away with Confederate symbols and such.. The thread about the Robert E. Lee statue in NOLA got me to thinking.

Since first stepping on the OM campus in 1974, I've seen a lot of things happen over the years.. I've seen the Rebel mike man/cheerleader done away with... I've seen the ASB buy a grey horse for Col Rebel to ride at games... the horse was named "Traveler" after Robert E. Lee's horse.

I've seen the Confederate flag banned at athletic events.... I've seen "Dixie" just about eliminated..

I've seen Confederate Drive renamed...

These changes are like dominoes falling, only much more slowly...

I didn't think live to see it, but within the next 5-10 years, if not sooner, the name "Ole Miss" and "Rebels" will cease to be... They'll remove the Confederate soldier standing at the entrance to Ole Miss... They'll also remove the University Greys stained glass mural in Ventress Hall.

Since we are so pro-change, I challenge all Rebel Grove members who have "Ole Miss", "Rebel", "Rebs", "Reb", etc. in their screen names to change their name--especially if they are in favor of changing other symbols... no need to be hypocrites about it...

I guess if the change dominoes keep falling, it will only be a matter of time before tombs/monuments like the one for a founder of Sigma Chi fraternity, James Parks Caldwell, are removed from public places like the Biloxi Cemetery.

That's enough for now.....
