Here's my theory on this. Coach Freeze and Gus came from similar coaching backgrounds and are well known friends and associates.
They enjoy gadget players and basketball on grass. After successful runs for both coaches, the other SEC coaches along with TCU have figured them out. Freeze and Uncle Gus can't win with their superficial schemes anymore. Other coaches have exposed them preying on their weakness. It took a few years to figure them out. Freeze and Uncle Gus haven't changed their offensive strategy over the past few years and it has cost them. Uncle Gus started a little bit ahead of Coach Freeze but Auburn is tumbling down to mediocrity. Is Ole Miss doing the same? Is our offense cupboard bare? A good defense can cover for the offense inconsistencies but we and Auburn do not have a good secondary.

In the game of chess, many Masters would come out with innovative attacks with great success. After a period of time, other players would figure out how to combat the innovations and eventually the innovations were discontinued because they no longer worked.

We have much to re-evaluate and change.
