I have been thinking about the Ole Miss vs. The Bad News Bears comparisons we have been seeing more of. It occurred to me that the analogy is unfair….to the Bears. Buttermaker did whatever it took to bring in talent. He worked tirelessly to land Amanda and Kelly (two incredible talents). He also was a great developer of talent. Guys like Tanner, Engelberg, Ogilvie, Abdul-Rahim, and Lupus all improved on an almost daily basis. Plus the Bears seemed to care more. They hated losing and it showed in their play - tripping baserunners, throwing a glove at an opposing player, etc. That competitiveness comes from the top. Throw in his propensity to drink a few cold ones during the game and I submit to you that Buttermaker is indeed a better head coach than Bianco.
