SInce it looks like the future of college football will be 2 super leagues (SEC and BIG) let's have some fun and predict where college football will be in 2030.
BIG - will add Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Arizona State, Colorado, Utah, Kansas, and....drumroll....Notre Dame. 24 teams total
SEC - will add FSU, Miami, Clemson, UNC, Duke, NC State, UVA, and VA Tech. 24 teams total
PAC 12 and Mountain West will consolidate into one, most likely under the PAC 12 name.
Big XII and ACC will consolidate into one, with a new, hybrid name selected. Atlantic West Conference?
The season is scaled back to 11 games so as to preserve conference championship games and limit the maximum game number for playoff teams to 16. Buy games are limited to one. 9 conference games, one power 4 game.
Bowl games remain for non-playoff teams, but schools hold the power now and are not held hostage with absurd ticket allotments in the worst seats. Most bowl games become meaningless exhibitions that lose money and ultimately fold.
16-team playoff. Power Four Champions and highest-ranked non-Power Four champion are guaranteed a berth, but BIG and SEC will dominate the participants, possibly up to 4-6 bids each. 1st and 2nd round games will be played at higher-seeded teams' home. Semi-finals and finals at locations that bid for host rights.
