@Chase Parham made a really good point that hiring Beard and him getting in some sort of trouble is the only way that Keith Carter could get fired from this hire. I think that's probably right, but take a step back at Carter's record:
By all accounts, he led the process that brought Kermit Davis. I think that it's now safe to say that everything that's been done since the powerpoint with the basketball program has been a mistake. I have to put a lot of that on Carter.
It was only the peasants with pitchforks that forced the issue on Kiffin and got him over the line. If Carter had worked in a bubble, we would have Drinkwitz as our coach. He deserves credit for coming sober and making the right call, but the hesitancy on Kiffin keeps me from giving him full marks there.
Now, he gets his third major hire - like I said, I think that Chase is right about football keeping him afloat, but if he flubs the dub on this hire with big names like Beard and Wade out there interested in the job; it will really cause me to question his tenure as AD. I think a sizable portion of the fanbase will turn (maybe too strong of a word) if we don't get Beard or Wade. I think he's also held to a little bit higher standard in basketball, just because that's his background.
