GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a spectacular sophomore season behind and at the plate, Hayden Dunhurst is a finalist for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Monday.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 23 by Rawlings via Twitter. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball.
Dunhurst already holds SEC All-Defensive Team honors, in addition to Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Newcomer Team nods.
Earlier this week, the sophomore out of Carriere, Mississippi, was announced as the first Rebel catcher to be named to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Also a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, Dunhurst led the SEC with 16 runners caught stealing and five runners picked off. He was terrific at the plate as well, hitting over .300 well into May. He finished with a .280 batting average, 40 runs scored, 11 doubles, a team-high two triples, seven home runs and 43 RBI.
