Excited to get into SEC play. Great environment, great program.
Gave up five explosive plays, all due to improper alignment. Have to get that straightened out before Saturday.
Conyers has a sprained knee, will give it a go for sure.
Are we ready for SEC play? I don’t know. Confident football team believes it can win. Also knows you can lose these games because you’re playing good teams. Doesn’t make too much of any one game, win or lose. Knows he can go and compete.
Pushed receivers, and through two games, they’ve done really well. Have to be a strength of offense and they’ve come on. Running good routes, making explosive plays, making few mistakes, blocking well.
Having issues getting defensive linemen lined up when other team flops its tight ends. Have to get that fixed, get cleats in the ground and ready to play.
Chad Kelly studies tons of film. It’s obvious in way he performs. Meets with Freeze three or four times a week, told Freeze, “I desperately want you to coach me,” meaning in ways beyond football.
Really emphasizing alignment and gap protection on defense.
Can’t afford to look ahead. That’s preached in the program every week. Not really about the opponent; rather, it’s about being prepared and playing your best every week.
Alabama has a good scheme, good OL. Henry is very talented. So are 17, 34, 88, 13. They’ve got playmakers who make them who they are. You have to tackle Henry low. Also have to be aware where 17.
Shepard will have to sit out the first half.
Can’t say more about Tunsil than what was in statement Saturday.
Alabama’s defense is as deep and talented as he’s ever seen. It’s a defense that can stop anyone. Ole Miss is confident, but haven’t done it yet in an environment where it can’t communicate. Will work on that this week. Have the ability to stress a defense if balance is maintained. Have to stay balanced.
Alabama is averaging 86 plays. “I don’t know that they oppose (tempo) anymore. …It looks a lot like us playing. …It’s good to have them come on our side for sure. It’s good in some ways.”
Trying to keep Kelly grounded, and he thinks he’s handled it well. He’s been called a ticking time bomb. Freeze wants to ask those guys, “Do you have kids?” So far, Freeze is confident Kelly has his head in the right place.
Practicing with noise. Will be prepared for that.
Finally Ole Miss is who Freeze wants it to be right now. Using whole field. Making it tough on defenses. Making explosive plays. Thought Fresno was pretty good coming into game, but Ole Miss got on a roll and good things happened.
Rawlings is playing well. Has to get pads lower, and Ole Miss needs him to play well.
Cooper has played really well at LT. Anytime you go against really good teams, you’re going to have 1-on-1s. Have to win 70-80 percent of those. Have to play tempo and stay balanced. If you get in third-and-longs, you’re going to lose some battles.
Rod Taylor was solid. Turned down some opportunities to get physical at the point of attack, but he’ll get better as the weeks go on.
