Proud of the team's response last week -- the staff and kids. Everyone who was in this building we had focus and good practices. It's always good when scoreboard validates your efforts. It validated effort and performance. The goal and challenge is to carry it over to this week. To correct negatives and continue the positives. Lot of great efforts. Most complete performance of year. Offensively we were balanced. We have to improve penalties. This is our ninth straight game. That's a challenge in preparation. We'll sit down and formulate final plan this afternoon. We responded to being physical last week. Auburn does a phenomenal job. They have playmakers and it's a challenge on the road. We haven't been ourselves on the road. We have to answer that challenge.
Thinking about ways to improve us on the road. We were good the first road game. Energy was good. Maybe it's not being on the road as much as it is the confidence on defense. We lost some kids and didn't perform well on the road. Didn't handle atmosphere well in one of those. I think we've regained some confidence and we're going to make a few changes. Hopefully we regain some of that.
In coaching you make bad calls, good calls, poor judgments, good judgments. With the injuries we've had we had backed off some of the physical aspects of practice with tackling being cut out. We got back to that. Now we still missed 11 tackles but fundamentals were a lot better. Hopefully it's because we put an emphasis on it. We ran to the football like we've been known to do.
Zone read helped some on Saturday. But those are reads. They aren't called plays. It's an extra gap they have to defend.
If you watch tape closely there were two opportunities for them to have explosive plays they didn't make. I thought the rest of the time we were in good position. I want us to be confident and feel good about who we are. I want us to be confident as opposed to the other side.
Laremy is arguably the best tackle in America. Playing against defensive ends like that is important to have him. It allowed people to move to normal positions. Fahn had his best game, too. He really played well. Maybe confidence. He played really well. It's great to have Laremy back.
We ran four things on defense instead of 14. We made sure kids were going to play hard and be in the right spot. It just clicked. Maybe some of the guys who hadn't played that well put it together. A lot of the younger guys really played well. It clicked. One game is hard to tell but we picked up tempo of practice. Went good on good Tuesday and Wednesday. Which one worked? I don't know but we'll try them all again.
Tony is going to try to run today. I have no idea how that will go. Robert is still in concussion protocol. He doesn't have to start over. He just has to be symptom free. Hopefully things go well with Tony. He's been in pool running. Going to pool now.
Woody Hamilton may be limited this week. He'll play but may be limited. Christian Morris' timetable to be determined.
He hasn't reached out to Austin Golson since he left. We are happy if he's happy. We are playing Auburn, not an individual.
Justin Bell played solid at center.
We didn't go tempo but got 93 plays. That means we got off the field on third down and it gives more carries to our running backs because there are more plays.
Tony Bridges is more comfortable with press coverage. He had a good game doing that.
Robert is Freeze's first player to ever be cleared to play and then have symptoms the next day. "It's just something you cant' fool around with."
It's the right thing for this university to take the flag down. I hope the state follows suit. It adequately reflects the core values of who we want to be. This state is hospitable and while it symbolizes different things we have to move together forward.
Batted down balls are part of the territory. More concerned about throwing into coverages. Chad and I have a good relationship and we're in a good spot. We can be honest with each other. The first quarter and a half was excellent and then somewhere in there it flipped and he needed to handle that a little better. Chad always knows immediately what he should have done. It's not a mystery, and that's a good thing.
We're not into revenge at Auburn. It's the next opportunity to win a conference game. We don't discuss last year.
A lot of teams control their own destiny. LSU controls theirs. All of that is great but let's win one at a time. Our kids know the situation, and that gives them hope. But they have to maintain that hope no matter what. We've gotten our team ready to play really well sometimes this year. Sometimes we haven't. We have to get ready to be in a great position at Auburn.
Our specials teams played really well the other night. TAMU had really hurt people in the return game. It was a non-factor the other night. Noble's kickoffs were effective. Mixing the punters was very effective. We got points with field goal units except the first drive. It was a good kick. It was wide right by a foot. Collins Moore has brought stability to us.
Auburn will be ready to go with a great plan. They'll be hungry for success back at home.
