CLEMSON — At some point this week, the Stanford football equipment truck will arrive in Clemson after one of the shorter legs of its journey.

The Cardinal's football supplies had to make a more than 2,800-mile trek to Syracuse for a Sept. 20 contest with the Orange. There was no sense in driving all the way back to California because Clemson — next on Stanford's schedule on Sept. 28 — was a relatively short drive.

Just 850 miles south.

"I think we're gonna do some of their laundry," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. "There you go, 2024."

Something college football related that is not Hugh or Lane to Florida related.....

The Atlantic Coast Conference's expansion to the West Coast with Cal and Stanford — and the state of Texas with SMU — brings with it some logistical challenges.

But, it turns out, Clemson's washing machines will probably not be tasked with cleaning the Cardinal's jockstraps.

Stanford was able to fly its dirty laundry back to California after the Syracuse game. A smaller box truck has been commissioned to take equipment the Cardinal needed during the week on a journey back east for a Sept. 28 kickoff in Memorial Stadium.

The main equipment truck — an 18-wheeler hauling supplies Stanford needed for game day, and game day only — will make its way down from Syracuse to Clemson during the week, arriving sometime Wednesday or early Thursday.

"Nothing has been finalized as far as laundry is concerned," a Stanford spokesperson confirmed via email, adding there is an "option" for the Cardinal to do some laundry in Clemson, if necessary.

The everyday college football fan probably isn't accustomed to hearing coaches talk much about laundry, aside from the "yellow rags" thrown to mark a penalty.

But, again, it's 2024, and this is the first year where Clemson is playing host to an ACC opponent that's slated to fly well over 10,000 miles in a two-week period.

This isn't to say, however, that it's completely uncharted territory for an equipment staff to handle another team's laundry. Especially in other sports.

In college baseball, for example, there are three-day weekend series, which require some cooperation from the host school so the visiting team can make it through Sunday.

This happens in football, as well, but usually in the postseason.
