I know we aren’t expected to accept an NIT bid but I keep hearing that we wouldn’t be a shoe in because it’s harder than it used to be to get one of those bids.
I thought the NIT changed this year: https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/10/2...s-changes-to-tournament-selection-format.aspx
“For the 2024 NIT, conference regular-season champions that do not win their conference tournament or are not otherwise selected to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship will not receive an automatic bid to the NIT.”
“Instead, the NIT will guarantee two teams (based on the NET rankings) from each of six conferences (Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and Southeastern). The top two teams in the NET rankings not qualifying for the NCAA men's basketball tournament from each conference, regardless of win-loss record, will be selected”
“Once the 12 automatic qualifying schools have been selected, the NIT Committee will select the 20 best teams available to complete the tournament's 32-team field”
So…it’s actually a litter easier to make it for P6 schools like Ole Miss, no?
This year, assuming the SEC gets TEN, UK, ALA, AUB, SC, UF, MSST in the NCAAT … that would mean Ole Miss and A&M get the 2 NIT auto-bids (unless we turn it down, which sounds like the case).
