People from 101 worldwide territories and countries will be in the Italian city, which hosted the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and earlier this year held the 2025 Winter World University Games, beginning on Saturday 8 March (Opening Ceremony), with the first competitions scheduled for Monday 10 March and running until Saturday 15 March.
Over 1500 athletes and partners are expected to attend the gathering, as well as 2000 volunteers, 1000 officials, and 3000 family members and friends, to compete in eight sports and take part in the Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program (MATP), which is a non-competitive programme.

There are eight sports being contested at this year's Special Olympics World Winter Games, plus the MATP.They are:
- Alpine skiing, in Sestriere;
- Cross-country skiing, in Pragelato;
- Dance sport, in Bardonecchia;
- Figure skating, in Turin;
- Floorball, in Turin;
- Short track speed skating, in Turin;
- Snowboarding, in Bardonecchia; and
- Snowshoeing, in Sestriere.
