Most of the guys on The White Shadow weren't very good basketball players. Coolidge was good. At least you could tell that he had played the game. Goldstein was good. Thorpe could at least dribble a little bit. Besides that, it didn't look like any of the other guys even played high school basketball. I'd bet that Salami never even played pick up basketball.
But it was a great show. Binge watch worthy. And Hayward, Thorpe and Salami ended up being directors in real life. The Director and primary Writer was Bruce Paltrow. Gwyneth's dad. He did St Elsewhere after that, and brought Coolidge on as a real character, an orderly named Warren Coolidge.
