With the World Cup expanding, six teams will directly qualify for the tournament from South America this time around and the team finishing seventh will take part in the inter-confederation play-offs. Venezuela have a great opportunity to make the World Cup for the first time in its history.

Brazil on the other hand are finally picking up form after having a slow start to their qualifying campaign. They rose to fourth place during the previous international break. Seleção have five wins, one draw, and four losses in their first 10 games. They are level on points with Uruguay and are now in a firm position to make the prestigious tournament held in the U.S.A.

Five-time winners of the World Cup, Brazil lost four out of their first eight games in South America‘s qualifying competition, leaving themselves in danger of missing out on the finals for the first time in their history.

However, October wins over Chile and Peru have lifted Dorival Júnior’s men to fourth in the standings, from which the top six will qualify automatically for the 23rd edition of the World Cup, which is to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Brazilians are four points clear of seventh-placed Bolivia, who as thing stand will go into an inter-confederation playoff for a place at the tournament.

Venezuela, meanwhile, are one point behind the Bolivians. Chasing their first ever World Cup berth, the Vinotinto won two of their first four 2026 qualifiers - and drew 1-1 in Brazil on matchday three. However, the Venezuelans have now slipped to eighth in the 10-team table after a run of six games without a win.
