You do realize our first team D only gave up 10 pts right? 7 of those came off of a short field. We still have some issues with the run but those will get ironed out when all the actual 1st team D starters are in there. Those points given up later were on some guys that may never start an SEC game if they stayed at Ole Miss for 6 years. I have tried to make it abundantly clear we aren't a running team and no one wants to listen. We did have over 100 rushing yards between all our backs and Patterson though.but playing faster does NOT help our struggling D. They need less time on the field. If we can't run the ball then make 5 yd passes and ramp up Paterson's numbers that way. Our Defense needs less opportunity to fail.
Time of possession! It will bite us on the ass. Worked fine this time but we won't be playing SA again. (TN Martin notwithstanding)
Still living in your head I see lol. It's ok to have mancrushes just realize i don't swing that way so it's futile lol.I don't know if he is related to anyone else in the administration, so you might be ok with that comment
Agree about having big bruising backs like Pettway (Auburn RB.) That guy gets 3-4 yards on a bad play. One of the main reasons the running game is so inefficient is because Freeze refused to recruit RBs. He was adamant about only recruiting small scat backs who have break away speed and generally did not put much emphasis on big, bruising RBs. Now this philosophy might work in high school, but it will not work in the SEC, as is evident from the severe lack of a running game during his tenure as coach.
Also, Freeze also allowed a RB to dictate policy and say he would commit to Ole Miss if he was the only RB recruited for the class. This same RB has been continually injured and has not contributed to the positive aspects of a running game. As a result only one RB was recruited in the class and now the RB position extremely lacks depth and talent.
Longo will be learning on the job and soon understand the strengths of SEC teams. SEC football is vastly different from Division 2 football and weekly opponents are much stronger than Southland Conference teams. If an offense cannot convert or score points with an uptempo game plan, then the defense has no time to rest and is prone to both injury in addition to giving up points.
