I have noticed there are a lot of non Ole Miss related questions on the board. I have one and I would like to get the boards opinion.
I have a long history in the external and internal martial arts. I realize that the Jackson area is full of external martial art schools: TKD, Shotokan, and shorin-ryu, wing chun, Krav Maga for example. Other than Hap Ki Do and BJJ they are all are really just punching and kicking so a wushu school would get lost in the shuffle.
I think there is a market for the internal martial arts for health, fitness and self defense: Tai Chi Chaun, Bagua, and Hsing-i.
My thoughts are to teach Tai chi and Bagua to the older people and Hsing-i to the younger people. Of course if young people want to learn Tai chi that would be fine. If fit older people want to learn Hsing i that would be fine also.
I think there are plenty of plus 50s that would love to learn a MA but feel they are too old. Tai chi and Bugua taught together would be great for health and both are extremely effective Martial Arts in there own way. Both put little stress on joints and the body as a whole and have been proven to make one healthier.
Since Bagua is a multiple attacker MA the only way this would work is to have 5 or more regular students. Of course the only way to make it work financially is to have many students.
I guess my question is does the board think this is a workable idea in the Jackson area?
