I live in DeSoto County and am growing weary of the direction the neighborhood I live in is going (seeing more and more fast food trash in the neighborhood, the smell of weed is frequent when I walk the dog or jog at night, 3 people got shot a couple of blocks away a couple weeks ago, etc). There are numerous houses and subdivisions available, but aesthetically they all seem to follow a pattern of essentially a garage with a house attached and include as many roof angles as possible. ugh.

Is it ruinously expensive to work with an architect/builder and provide pictures and input about what I would want?

While I am interested in and am an enthusiast in the design of historical homes, buildings, churches, ships, aircraft, and automobiles, I'm not in need of Buckingham Palace or anything outrageously complicated, I don't think. A single story historical Georgian, Federal, and southern antebellum style home with a central front door, portico, and symmetrical "wings" on either side with 3 BR and an office--about 3,000 sq ft. emphasizing quality of construction over quantity. Looking to do this on as much land as I can reasonably afford.

Anyone have any advice or know someone reputable to contact?

Yeah, I know...............Square Board. It's a bye week or I wouldn't have posted.
