Exciting day and a lot of stuff going on. Players making plays, competitive, moved the scorboard there at the end to have fn and make itt a one score game. Jaxson responded and they went down and scored. Pretty neat. Lot of players making plays. A lot of guys you’re familiar with and a lot of work to do. The draft makes the players more into it. I’m glad the players had fun and were productive in addition to getting work done.

I’ll be able to evaluate QBs better after film. I had a lot going on. There were good plays by all and they were in rhythm well. As the heat and tempo wore down the defense as we went. The idea was to improve the room and it’s competitive. It’s not just for the first spot. We wanted a better room. I mean we want really good pitchers on a baseball team — more than one even though they play one at a time. They all three are good and did good things.

The defense doesn’t run much defense. They don’t scheme. The offense didn’t listen to those orders and were more competitive schematically. I want to create a spring game that’s not boring and I want scoring and excitement for recruits to watch. You watch some where people don’t score. I remember at UT I didn’t let the defense run but two defenses and I wanted yards and points to get people excited.

We have a lot of injuries and we have things to focus on other things in our program. I don’t think we’ll use the rest of the practices this spring. Let’s get started on getting bigger, faster, stronger. Maybe walk throughs but it’s not about contact at this point.

We have done some really cool offensive things the last couple Saturdays. I’m really cool about Jaxson’s development. That happens year one to year two. His system at USC doesn’t translate to us. He was starting over. I’m very pleased.

We didn’t show everything for a TV game, but we had some aggressive play callers who got excited about calling a game. Pete and Charlie didn’t call that all today. We had some play callers looking through a straw. I wouldn’t have done some of that but it’s all right.

I’m not getting into what we need in the portal up here. Parents and everyone will ask me questions if I mention a position and they’ll think their kids are no good.

We aren’t always trying to just create competition. We want to make the roster better and win games and have a deep roster. It’s not just who is starting. It’s creating the best roster possible at all positions. You didn’t watch today and think we made poor decisions at QB. You have a room that looks a lot better than a year ago.
