Ole Miss faces Iowa at 6:30, 1:30 and noon this weekend for the three-game set. The Hawkeyes are 4-4 on the season with wins over Seton Hall, Ball State, Northern Illinois and Loras (beats me. The Hawkeyes have losses to Auburn, Virginia, Lehigh and Wichita State. The offense is average. The starting pitching is supposed to be borderline elite, and the bullpen has been straight up bad.

I'm eager to see Brody Brecht tonight for Iowa. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has been clocked as high as 101 MPH, and he's struck out 22 and given up just three hits in 10.1 innings. He's also walked 10 and hit a batter. He isn't positive where it's going. He was a two-sport guy who played wide receiver but quit because Iowa doesn't throw the football enough. It was the correct move. He's arguably the top raw arm in the country.

Marcus Morgan has struck out 13 in 8.2 innings and allowed four earned runs. Caleb Obermueller has struck out 13 in nine innings. The three starters have K rates of 47 percent, 35 percent and 35 percent. The starters have a lot of talent, but combined they only have one decision through two weekends because the bullpen has been horrid.

“Iowa’s pitching staff has three very solid starting options," Kendall Rogers said. "Brecht is one of the premier arms in college baseball, Morgan has excellent stuff in his own right and Obermueller is a little more raw, but also has very good stuff. Where it gets dicey for the Hawkeyes is when you get into the bullpen, and that’s what Ole Miss will need to exploit this weekend.“

Outside of three starters, here are the ERAs of the next most used pitchers: 5.87, 14.40, 9.64, 4.50, 9.82, 7.36, 33.75. Anthony Watts is the one reliever who seems to have really good stuff and has been a tad unlucky. It's a collection of big arms, but they miss spots and will walk you.

During the four losses, Iowa has had win probability percentages of 77, 78, 96 and 96 percent. They blew a 6-0 lead against Virginia. They've given up 25 runs from the sixth inning on in the four losses, and Auburn didn't bat in the ninth so that's 15 innings. And doesn't include the five spot Lehigh put up in the fifth.
