First off, this class is really excites me on the offensive side but for three straight years we refuse to address the linebacker position. Whether it be getting in too late for kids or wasting our time on kids that were never coming here (Juarez, hall, etc) Hugh continues to build any kind of depth at that postion. We have gates and maybe this Curtis kid but after that who do we have? Walk on's? God forbid injuries occur at that position...I'm puzzled by this for the third year in a row

There is speculation that TE recruit Jacob Mathis will end up at linebacker.

Looks like we'll have to wait until December for satisfaction in this regard, but I suspect they have a plan in place or would not have limited their recruiting to the very best at that position.

Aren't there a couple of promising freshmen linebackers who were red shirted this year?

Very obvious that Wommack is not a recruiter. He may be a decent DC (when not rushing 3 on 3rd and long), but a dynamic personality he is not! Can Batoon coach LBs? If so, why not move him to that position and Womack back to secondary in a non-recruiting role. Could it be that LBs do not want to play in a 5-2-4 defense? Just throwing out food for thought because there is currently a major problem in signing true LBs.

There are many options. How about Terry Caldwell who played last ur as a kick tsf. What about Buford who has speed and out grew db position? Angel played both ways lb and te. Maybe even Gross as we have Robinson and Evans for line work. We also undoubtedly are feverishly reviewing the judo ranks as well. Not worried here.

There was lots of optimism for Shawn Curtis, a freshman linebacker from Florida. Have there been any reports on how he developed in his red shirt year?

My point concerns the problem of recruiting and not signing LBs. Cannot be constantly applying band aids to overcome recruiting deficiencies. Someone suggested Freeze get involved in their (LB) recruitment, but that is analogous to a manager coming out of his office to do a job that he is paying someone else to do.

Defensive scheme only needs one true Mike LB! Operates on speed and not size!!! We have plenty of speed to fill! Let's the D line do their job! We are good there for next two years!
