As a graduate of Ole Miss class of 1988 I never really considered Miss. St. much of a rival. Maybe it was because I'm a Louisiana guy and the game was played during Thanksgiving break? I think most out of state students would agree! Now that this OM program is going the route of a strong Southeast regional student body....the Miss. St. game gets less interest than an ......Alabama or LSU. Heck, I would say even Vandy, Ark.,and A@m. I have nothing against Miss St. except their fans spend way too much attention worrying about a program that is slowly considering them a non rival, but more of a nuisance on their schedule!

I think it requires growing up in Mississippi to fully understand the rivalry with Mississippi State. All your life you hear about it. It's all about in-state bragging rights.
The "hate" in the rivalry is different on each side. For State fans, it's more of a little jealous stepchild kind of hate. For Ole Miss, it's more of a "we just hate losing to that cow college" kind of hate. State usually has the emotional upper hand in the rivalry because they are collectively obsessed with beating us - they DEFINE themselves relative to Ole Miss - while we expect to beat them and just simply don't want to lose to them.
I'm just glad we are finally putting some real distance in the talent level between the two football programs. I hope Freeze can keep the recruiting machine going.

Never had anything against MSU, except when they play us. Have many relatives in Becker, Collins, and Oxford who went to MSU. Was glad for them in whipping NC State. Yet, I am an Ole Miss fan, graduate, and love it. Just like an ugly sister-you know they won't get anywhere, you pull for her, but it ain't happening!
