Wasn't that long ago I was arguing with LSU fans who laughed at us for hiring him. I've always been an Orgeron fan so I hope he gets the job. At least with him you know what you've got. Anyone else is a crapshoot.

It's being hotly debated right now. A big selling point in his favor is the desire to keep as many of the assistants we currently have as possible, especially now that it seems the reigns have finally been taken off of them. CEO has been very candid with regards to what he did wrong at OM and what he learned from that experience.

Truth is its a moot point just now... but if he beats Bama he automatically becomes the frontrunner. If not he will have to win out to stay in the running Generally speaking most have him as a very popular option C, after Jimbo Fisher and Herman at Houston - and both of those have been unimpressive thus far this season.

wiggz, any chance LSU could hire a head coach and keep the present staff intact? Perhaps with above average pay and multiple year contracts. A young, energetic offensive head coach with this staff could be tge recipe for a dynasty. What are your thoughts on P.J. Fleck?

I honestly don't know enough about Fleck. Herman and Aranda go way back so if we got him I think we'd keep Aranda, at least for a little while. Don't know if CEO would be willing to stay if he got passed over or if the new coach would want to keep him... his responsibilities and compensation were already much more than a position coach under Miles. I would really only expect a few position coaches to be kept and that would be a shame because this really is the best staff we've ever had.

I'm not sold on Herman. I think Texas gets him anyway. Fisher would be a good hire but he turned the job down last year. I doubt that Fisher wants to go heads up against Saban and the SEC West every year and after Saban he'll have to deal with Dabo Swinney at Bama. The ACC is getting some parody now but FSU still has an easier ride than the SEC West. Orgeron came to Ole Miss with two strikes already against him. I didn't realize how bad our AD was until I moved to Oxford. It was impossible for any coach to succeed under Pete Boone. That said I hope he gets the LSU job even though I know he'll have the Tigers ready for Ole Miss every year. On another note. Did Louisiana do away with the TOPS program?

I bet they offer Ed and continue the current course of 2-3 losses a year. Firing Miles is pretty amazing. Ed could talk good gumbo though.

Ironically, maintaining a pace of 2-3 losses a year is practically unheard of. I can think of maybe two other coaches who manage to do that consistently and one of them benefits from a Big 10 schedule.

LSU has the longest 8+ win/season streak in the nation right now, so they're as consistent as it gets, and over Miles time at LSU only 1 or 2 other schools in the Power 5 have won as many games. LSU fans just got spoiled and fell victim to the 'grass is always greener' syndrome... the truth is that the SECW is tough sledding, and when you basically have to beat the #1 team in the country every year to have even a shot at a division title much less a conference title or national championship game, that's hard to overcome year in and year out.
