Maine thread

I was inspired by previous Maine threads to take a trip during September to Maine. My wife and myself and 2 friends are flying to Boston and then driving to Cliff House Maine for 4 days.
My “Maine” question is how to properly enjoy the drive to and from Boston so that it’s not just a drive. Scenery and local food.
Also would like to know once we get settled in to Cliff House, which day trips are most worth the drive.
