Right now the entire sports world knows who Stefan Moody is. Not many can tell you who is in the rotation for Kentucky or Kansas because they all play a role. Not sure many people at all can tell you ANYBODY who plays for state.

You would think that he would have to consider that. Everybody knows who Moody is and EVERYBODY knew Marshall Henderson - and EVERYBODY would know Malik Newman.

If Newman came here then he would be the biggest name in college basketball the entire time he was here.

Not sure if I would agree that Moody and Henderson were the biggest names in college bball...especially not Moody. Henderson got a lot of publicity, but mainly for his antics. Sure he led the SEC in scoring but the conference was down and in the scheme of things a single NCAA tourney win doesn't amount to much as a team.

As for UK, this particular team may not have the same one or two standout guys, but they are still full of big names that will be all over the draft board come June. The NBA won't really give Moodys and Hendersons of the world a sniff unless they show that they can guard better on the perimeter and do more than chuck 3s. Ultimately that's what these top rated guys want (get to the NBA)-- so if we could get one and show them that you can come to a non-elite program and still get drafted high it would enable us, and other non-powerhouse programs, to start poaching some of the top rated talent from UK, UNC, Kansas, etc.

The real selling point that AK has is that he lets his guys play, and if you show that you can make shots in clutch situations you will have the green light, even if you are having an off game.

I never said Moody and Henderson were the biggest names in college basketball, but I said Newman would be. I said everybody knows who Henderson and Moody are - and that's the truth. People who aren't even sports fans mention them to me because they know I'm an Ole Miss fan.

If Newman is as advertised then he could be the biggest name player this program has ever had. If he goes to Kentucky or Kansas then he will just be another name on the list. He could also wind up at the wrong school and become nearly anonymous from that point forward. Since he is from Mississippi I am hoping he gets it right.

At Kentucky or Kansas it's a fast track to the NBA. At Kentucky and Kansas Basketball is #1. Enough said.

True but Malik is not good enough to go straight to the NBA, at Kentucky one year with Calipari, he's a 1st rounder at worst 2nd rounder. Enough said.

Don't need a source, seen him play. So are you saying he is ready for the NBA ?

I'm of the OPINION that anyone who can turn pro after only one year of college hoops can turn pro out of HS. Personally, I'd rather see Kennedy build a program through recruiting numerous "good" players rather than signing a "one and done" superstar. But I do see Newman going to one of the premier college basketball teams.

I do agree with you that I would rather build with numerous good players than with a one and done superstar. I think it's easier for teams like Kentucky and Duke to get by with the one and done players because they are historically basketball powers and have no problem getting the top recruits. I don't know if I agree with you about,"anyone who can turn pro after only one year of college hoops can turn pro out of HS." I know there have been players like Kobe, LeBron, Garnet, and Kemp who skipped college went to the NBA and they are few and far between but I remember reading where Anthony Davis and Derek Rose both said they were glad they went one year to college ( because of the speed of the game and to mature), I say that to say I just think it would depend on who the player is and IMHO just don't think Malik is ready yet. I think he's a tremendous talent and would LOVE to see him in the Red and Blue and coached by a good coach in Andy Kennedy. But I am like you, I don't see him turning down a premier program like Kentucky.

College basketball is different in that one player can take a team to another level. I have seen it several times where a team is either good and then gets a "special" player that takes them to the next level. Basketball isn't like football which takes years to rebuild. It can be done in a season in basketball. I've seen teams go from being bubble or nit caliber and get one special player to where they become a great team. Some examples are 1981 Indiana, Isea Thomas. National championship with and 19 and 10 the following year without. 2003 Syracuse and car mellow Anthony, national championship with Anthony and average the following year without. Larry Bird at Indiana State. National championship game with Bird, losing record without Bird. My point is that one special player can turn an average basketball team into a very good team. I admit that I have never seen Newman play in person and don't know if he is that type of impact player, but I would like to see. On a different note, is it not a rule that the NBA requires all players to play at least one year of college basketball before they can be drafted?

The NBA says so just like the NFL says a high school player has to be out of school 3 years befrore he can play.

I think that, as of today, Newman is likely headed to Ole Miss.

But, I don't know when signing day is...if its a whole week, thats like a geological age in recruiting.

So they have to wait 3 years out of High School ? What about Anthony Davis who played 1 year at Kentucky ? Or has it just changed ?

Why do you think Newman is headed to Ole Miss? Do you know something the rest of us don't? I mean, it would be great.
Please 'elaborate'.

The collective bargaining agreements for the NBA say one year and the NFL says three years.
