Yes I know the Memphis game was last week but Walton's recent comments about the Memphis game stirred me up. As we all know and have heard frequently the last two seasons that when you are a "top" team you have to bring it every week because everyone is looking to knock you off that pedestal. Walton's quote was, "Every team is out to beat us and us taking them (Memphis) lightly lost us that game.” How does that happen? It was everywhere that Memphis was hyped up for their "game of century" so it should not have been any surprise that they showed up to play. I understand that you can't emotionally play at the highest level every week but you can't be in a state of mind that you overlook anyone. So whichever way it was, whether the players didn't listen to the coaches or the coaches did not prepare them correctly, it is discerning that the state-of-mind of the program is still not where it should be. Everyone, including the players themselves, thought that lessons were learned last season in this regard and would not overlook anyone this season but it doesn't appear that is this case. Maybe it simply takes more than two seasons for the correct mindset to embed itself into the program.
