You — and Chase to a much, much lesser extent — nailed it today on OEP about the games and Lane’s Gladiator tweet.
Wins are awesome. Beatdowns are much more enjoyable than sweating out Nicholls State with a ball in the air.
But the fact that Lane can’t understand — or refuses to admit — that beating the life out of Furman and MTSU is only entertaining until the newness of the game wears off is frustrating. The fact that he’s let it bleed over into the comments the players make increases that frustration for the average fan.
As you said, the fans showed up. 3 years ago there’d have been 25k fans there at kickoff. It was easily over 50k Saturday. The fans show up for the entertainment, which only lasts so long. The fans have been vital — per himself — in previous season big games. We stay and make a great environment when it’s needed (just listen to the LSU broadcast last year).
Why is it such a difficult proposition for him to thank the fans for showing up and staying while it’s competitive? The whole “he got it from Saban” just don’t pass the test — we are well beyond that at this point.
