I think a great deal of it is Ole Miss's track record-history. Let's look at the 2009 season. Similiar situation. We had a lot of preseason high expectations. We were coming off that outstanding Cotton bowl win over Texas Tech with a lot of talent on the roster as well.
Who remembers the Thursday night game against South Carolina on ESPN that year. We lose and fall back from No.4 to No.22 in the polls. We lose at home vs. Alabama 22-3 and any championship talk quickly evaporates.
I think a lot of national media and pundits will starting thinking of us as a flash in the pan IF this season goes badly for us. We have a lot of questions but as a whole because of who we are we aren't getting enough benefit of the doubt unlike LSU, Alabama or Auburn. But then again look at our track record in the past 8-10 years. We just have to consistently win atleast 8 games year in and year out for the next 3-5 years to build up some credit
or capital.
Its painful to admit but we don't handle high expectations well. I don't believe the past influences the present to a certain degree either.
