Attended game in Pavilion last night (picked a good one)… Random assortment of thoughts on game / experience.
- Atmosphere: Student attendance was phenomenal.. Club Red garage entrance is unique and athletic department always does great job of making it an experience for them (shirts, contest during timeouts, red solo cups, Kyle Wakefield running out of tunnel, etc).
- Dia: His upside is so high and Beard constantly rides him harder than anyone because of it. He’s cocky as hell and fears none. I think they’ll try to build out his frame in off-season. Would help him as a back to basket defender (Amari got him early a few times, but they adjusted). I still think him taking 3s helps spread offense (**if they are uncontested and not off the dribble).
- Murrell: 1st half was one of best I’ve seen of him in Ole Miss jersey. Wonder if his injury will be like a Jarvis Summer circa ‘14/15 and linger or bye week before Vandy can help recovery. He did looked marginally more explosive last night and if he gets anywhere near 100% this teams could really have some fun in March
- Juju: He picked his spots on when to finish around rim vs probe really well last night.. They need more of that out of him.
- Asst / TO: 24 to 1… never seen anything like it before.. continues to mask rebounding deficiency
-Kentucky: It’s not just a talent / depth issue right now… they play w/ no “pop”. D is abysmal. Butler and a healthier Carr make big difference, but Ole Miss was beating all but maybe 3/4 teams in country last night. Robinsons a dude though.
- Pope: When I think of the top 5 offensive coaches in country he’s on the list… he can get it turned around… with that being said I sat behind him and he looked all over the place before tip-off .. press conference was a disaster and late adjustments on D
I’m sure @Brian Rippee and I will have plenty to talk about through the rest of conference play.. winning is fun as hell.
