This is the first play of Bama’s opening drive.
Ole Miss is showing blitz from the linebacker positions. As you can see, the middle of the field is nothing but open space if Ole Miss is blitzing. Ole Miss is blitzing.
The blitz is completely ineffective because Ruggs rushes the same outside lane as Evans, creating a much easier block for the right tackle and clear open space to throw the football.
The Bama tight end runs a 5 yard curl route in the middle of the field and goes one-on-one with the safety, CJ Moore, resulting in an 17 yard gain.

This is the second play from Bama’s opening drive.
CJ Moore just got exploited in open space by the Alabama tight end. So this is Bama simply playing the numbers game and saying, “If he can’t close on the tight end, he can’t close on the running back”
Tua throws a swing pass to Harris in the flat and Bama simply plays the numbers game.
Tight end has Ruggs. Other Bama receivers block their corners, and it’s Harris versus CJ Moore. Moore takes a bad angle, doesn’t wrap up, and Harris makes him pay.
12 yard gain for Bama.

This is the third play of the opening drive for Bama. This one results in a touchdown.
Highlighted below are three players who can make the tackle.
Winters actually sheds his block but can’t make the tackle from the weak side. Sanogo takes a poor angle. Woods is running away from the play.
——
The last play we’ll examine is the long TD pass to Jeudy in the late first quarter.
A lot of alignments don’t make sense on the presnap. For one, Ole Miss has zero safety coverage against Bama’s fastest receiver. Ole Miss has Custis and Woods showing blitz when neither are blitzing.
All this does is create a foot race. Tua recognizes it from the jump. The funny thing is, Custis isn’t even covering Jeudy. Woods, who is more inside presnap, is responsible for recovering downfield. It doesn’t happen.
——
So, what does this all mean? There’s obvious talent issues. There’s some execution issues. There’s some schematic breakdowns as well.
It’s certainly an AND conversation upon further review.
