The Ole Miss football team's victory over top-ranked Alabama last season was named the Best Upset of the past year at the ESPYs Wednesday night. Former Rebels Senquez Golson and Bo Wallace were out in Los Angeles to accept the trophy at the annual sports awards show on behalf of the entire Ole Miss football team.
The ESPYs were voted on via online fan voting. The Rebels bested the Kansas City Royals and the Georgia State men's basketball team for the award.
Pascagoula's Golson, along with Wallace, walked the red carpet as representatives of Ole Miss. Both Rebels were influential in the first victory over a No. 1 ranked team in Ole Miss football history. Wallace tossed the game-winning touchdown pass to Jaylen Walton, while Golson's interception in the end zone capped off the upset win over the top-ranked Crimson Tide.
For Ole Miss fans throughout the country as well as the 61,826 fans that packed Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on that beautiful, cool, fall afternoon, the No. 11 Rebels' thrilling 23-17 victory over No. 1 Alabama was a moment that will go down as one of the biggest wins in program history. A Saturday that began with Ole Miss' first appearance on ESPN's popular pregame show "College GameDay," was closed out in style by out-scoring Alabama 20-3 in the second half to move to 5-0 for the first time since 1962, and send thousands of the Rebel faithful onto the Hollingsworth Field in euphoria.
